About Me

I am a Korean American Canadian. Depending on where I am and who meets me I am an American Korean Canadian, a Korean, or just an American. (Although in most of Latin America I am Chinese).

Much of my adult thinking life has been impacted by the critical pedagogy approach made popular by Paulo Freire, where human beings are encouraged to examine their lives in the circular context of their experience. Proponents of critical pedagogy believe that life is a continual process of unlearning, learning, relearning, reflection, and evaluation.

Photography has been a powerful tool through which I have been able to live more critically. The cycle of living, shooting, and processing is one that constantly filters out my thoughts, perceptions, and prejudices. With every photo taken with intention, I am brought to a deeper appreciation of life, myself and others.
